Viveynne Interview

August 7, 2009

Who is Viveynne, and how would you describe the music coming out of my speakers?

Viveynne is my personal way of releasing the bad things in life so I don't have to dwell on them everyday. Once I write it out on paper it's out of my mind and I can continue to live my life without thinking of the negitive things. Viveynne is like an outlet to me, it's somewhere to put the feelings I don't want to feel. The music I create reflects how I was feeling at the time, not who I am as a person. Many people think I'm a depressed and over-all sad person because of what I write but that's not true at all, in fact I'm the most care-free person I know ! The EP was really an experiment for me, I'm planning on changing the music sound (for the better) and switching things up.

Why Viveynne? What inspired that choice for a name?

In the King Arthur legends the Lady Of The Lake - who was a witch of great power - was named Vivian. I just switched some of the letters around.

You're only 14, and people that I've played your music for are pegging you at 20+. Is this a common reaction, or is everyone I know just crazy?

Ahahahaha. Actually it's very common for my age to be confused. Many people I meet think I'm older because of the way I talk/look/think. I've always veiwed myself as an adult trapped in a childs body. Being a kid is difficult because no one wants to listen to a younger person when they have something serious to say. Society thinks once you hit 18 you start to think logically but this isn't true at all, I know younger people who are much smarter then many adults.

The first released EP, "Becoming Jane Doe", came out just this year, correct? How has fan response been so far? Is there a common comparison to any other bands as far as the sound goes?

Yes it was released this year and the fan response has been very positive so far, I'm glad that my fans enjoyed it so much. However I am planning on changing the sound of the band for the first full album, hopfully that will be accepted just as well.
The most common comparison to another band I get is to Evanescence. I've been told I sound a lot like Amy Lee and write a lot like her too. As much as I love Evanescence - I'm a huge fan :) - I want to break away from sounding to much like them and do my own thing. I don't want to be pegged as 'the band that sounds like Evanescence'.

How long had the release been in the works before it was finally available?

Oh my God, the work on this EP was just too much. After I wrote all the songs on my piano we took them to a producer who recorded demos in the summer of 2008. After that we had to stop the project because my producer was touring with his band for a month. In October we started up again and ended recording in December. We were burned over 7000 dollers because the EP sounded like crap made in someones garage. We then took the idea to another studio in Febuary and ended recording in April. So it took the majority of a year to finally get finished.

Live shows: do you do them, and with who? Is there a permanent backing band for Viveynne, or is on a show-by-show thing?

The only live show I've done was at the release concert. I've done tons of Broadway and plays but when it comes to live shows for Viveynne there's been extremely little going on. I don't have a permanent band together yet but I'm looking for musicians at the moment.

Where have you all played so far?

The only live show I've played was at The Hardball Cafe in Milton.

What can people expect from Viveynne in the next six months? How about twelve months from now?

Well I'm still looking for musicians for the band. Once I get that together we can begain to write for the first album. I have a few ideas for songs planned out and a concept planned for the album. There will deffently be more music soon!!

Viveynne can be heard on MySpace, as well as on YouTube.
